The second winner of STV’s creative short film competition The Stevies has been won by Chris Watson from Newhaven.

Watson has won a commission which will see STV produce his zombie football film Dead Ball, which will air later this year.

He beat off competition from 15 other entries which included agencies such as The Union, Leith Agency, Story, Frame and Tsuko.

A shortlist of six entries was drawn up which included four from Newhaven including two from Watson and another from his creative partner Rufus Wedderburn as well as entries from each of Newhaven’s other creative team Troy Farnworth and Marcus Culloty.

The list was rounded off by Chris Scott from The Leith Agency and John Mullen from Story.

The shortlist and the winning entry were chosen by a panel drawn from STV’s production, creative, marketing and sales teams.

The competition launched last March with the first winner being named as Michael Hart, creative director from The Union, whose short film ‘Close Your Eyes’ will go into production in February.

Mark Gorman; head of client Services at STV said. “This is proving to be a popular and exciting competition which allows creatives a bit of a free reign to unleash their ideas in a different format. We have two very worthy winners in Chris Watson of Newhaven and Michael Hart of The Union.

“I look forward to announcing our next event and the third Stevies brief in the next few weeks. We are enjoying the opportunity to engage more closely with the creative community in Scotland and look forward to the deepening of that relationship over the coming year."

That's not Chris. That's Gianfranco Zola. No wonder he won with a footy script. Fix!
