CBBC has launched an online game to promote its new TV show Relic: Guardians of the Museum.
Leeds-based digital agency MadeByPi created the game, which can be played at www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/games/lb/games/play/relic.
Dominic Atherton, content producer for CBBC Interactive commented: “This exciting new TV show is a fundamental part of the BBC’s landmark new multi-platform series A History of the World, in collaboration with the British Museum: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ahistoryoftheworld.
“Relic: Guardians of the Museum is a weekly CBBC show set within the British Museum. Each week, a trio of child contestants must uncover the secrets of a particular relic held within the museum and complete a series of challenges relating to it. The accompanying online game, produced by MadeByPi, has added an interactive dimension by giving the CBBC audience the opportunity to uncover the relics themselves within a virtual museum.”
The programme focuses on thirteen of the overall 100 objects that comprise the wider ‘A History of the World’ project. Following each episode, a clue and a video appears on the CBBC website, guiding users to find that week’s hidden relic. Once it is found, users can click to resume the game, answer a historical question and then see the relic appear in the virtual museum. The aim of the game is to collect and return all thirteen relics to the museum by the end of the series. Upon completion, users will be rewarded with a certificate honouring them as Guardians of the Museum.
Chris Hemingway, creative partner for MadeByPi said: “We have created a flash application game that engages users over a period of at least thirteen weeks and beyond. It mirrors the museum environment on the TV show, including imagery and sound. Users are being tasked to return to the site every week and continue their quest to find all thirteen relics. The game is fun, educational and interactive, giving the show wider, online coverage.”
