Recyclebank, the company behind the UK's first rewards for recycling scheme, has appointed Sue Igoe as its managing director.

A founding employee of the US-based company and a member of its executive management team, Igoe was previously the firm's vice president of marketing and is relocating from New York to take up her new post.

She will be responsible for growing the popularity of RecycleBank in the UK.

The idea behind RecycleBank is to award points to households for recycling which can then be redeemed at resaurants and leisure facilities or donated to charity.

Igoe said: "The RecycleBank scheme is really rewarding for our partners, who benefit from joint marketing, access to highly engaged consumers, increased customer spend and footfall, as well as boosting their CSR credentials.

“The scheme has proven a huge hit in the US and we’ve already seen an overwhelming up-take in the UK. Over 200 reward partners have already signed up, including household brands like Marks & Spencer, McDonald’s and Subway, as well as a whole host of local retailers and a number of charities.

“It’s a fantastic programme that benefits the retailer, the customer and the environment and I’m looking forward to working with both new and existing partners as we roll out the scheme across the UK.”
