The 2010 Chip Shop Awards panel just keeps getting bigger and more illustrious. With this many egos in one room will we get any judging done?

Joining the already illustrious judging panel is highly respected creative type Simon Waterfall formerly of Poke London. Mr Waterfall was the D&AD Chairman in 2008 and his creative credentials are impeccable. Speaking during the D&AD judging back in 2008 Simon said of the Chip Shop Awards: "The serious approach that the 300-plus judges bring to the process also means that any cheeky scamps hoping to pass off a “scam” piece of work are quickly identified by the judges. “If we come across a scam ad, we should just send it for the Chip Shops. I fucking love the Chip Shop Awards”. Another feather in the Chip Shops' already well feathered cap this week is the signing of even more international judges. All the way from Australia to take part in the Chip Shop Awards is chairman and ECD of Droga5, David 'Nobby' Nobay. While a little closer to home, the judging panel is also going to be bolstered by Dave Smith of Wieden and Kennedy in Amsterdam.  Other judges for the Chip Shop Awards include Dave Trott of CST, Michael Wolff of Michael Wolff & Co, John Jessup of Leo Burnett, Steve Vranakis of VCCP, Dave Waters of Watermill, Patrick Baglee of Navyblue, Fabian Frese of Jung Von Matt and Mike McKenna of JWT to name a few. The deadline for entries to the Chip Shop Awards is Friday 12 March. Some great names on this panel of judges, probably one of the best creative panels that will be put together this year. And not a real ad in sight. Well done Chip Shop people.

I think the fact there is not a real ad in sight and that this exercise is based in creative fantasy is why so many moths are attracted to the flame. Challenge is whether the Chip Shop Awards can be taken seriously enough to make a serious point about creativity and it's role in communication. Good luck!

This could easily be a victim of its own success.

Hope there are some proper awards this year then, not just a bottle of Sarsons with a sticker on it!

Isn't it the case that the bottle of vinegar is for commendations and 'proper' awards are given out to winners in the category?

Yes that may be the case. Or is a winning 'trophy' a salt shaker or something?
Still, £116 is a fair old entry fee to win a bottle of vinegar.
More than the Roses fee in fact. Wonder why.
