The threat of job cuts after Trinity Mirror takeover at MEN has caused NUJ members to join forces.

The Move will see NUJ members at the MEN coming together with fellow NUJ chapel members from papers such as the Stockport Times and Rochdale Observer after members decided it would put them in a stronger position if they pooled their resources to deal with the somewhat controversial takeover that could lead to job cuts in the region.

The MEN’s  mother of chapel Judy Gordon and the MEN’s weeklies mother of chapel Bethan Dorsett said in a joint statement: "Though traditionally the MEN and weeklies have been separate chapels, it is common sense to bring them together – after all we are now under one roof. We are delighted that both chapels have decided to show such solidarity in light of the uncertainty caused by the sale of the company to Trinity Mirror.

"A strong, united chapel made up of over 100 journalists can take positive action to prevent any job losses or other damaging changes that our new owners may want to implement at a later stage."
