Highland Spring is to roll out a new plastic bottle which it claims is the lightest in the sparkling category, using less material.

Designed by the Glasgow office of 999 Design, the 500ml bottle will hit shelves next month, weighing in at 21.5grams and 38 grams for the 1.5 litre bottle.

Paul Condron, head of brand marketing for Highland Spring, said: “The sparkling bottled water market is in growth and as the market leader, we felt 2010 was the perfect time to refresh our sparkling range and give consumers something new.

“The new look fits with our consumers’ aspirations of drinking sparkling water for occasions such as family dining and entertaining when they may opt for water over alcohol or other soft drinks as a healthier and more natural accompaniment to food.”

Jesus.....the 1.5 litre bottle weighs just 38 grams....how dull, actually that may be the best thing to say about it.

If this is considered new and exciting in the bottled water sector I want in – imagine when they launch a bottle that looks like the thing you pee into at the hospital – for recycling enthusiasts likes.
