Beleaguered car manufacturer Toyota has continued its damage limitation drive with a full page press ad telling customers it is working "to put things right".

The ad carries the line "We're pulling together to put things right" and says almost 10,000 staff are working to help customers through the crisis.

It stresses that Toyota has been "building safe cars for the UK" for over 40 years and claims that out of 300 automotive safety recalls in the UK since 2008 only four have been Toyota vehicles.

More than 1000 Toyota technicians are on hand to repair cars day and night, the ad says, with Toyota able to handle 6,000 cars per day.

"We still have some way to go until all the cars are upgraded, but the reaction of so many of you has been inspiring and humbling to all of us at Toyota," the copy reads.

The ad finishes by directing concerned drivers to a customer relations hotline or the Toyota website.

Surely now is the time for a more sober ad though? It's not particularly creative, granted, but I'd rather they were putting the effort into fixing their cars than their ads.

Firstly, there are too many words. And it smacks of being written by committee, with clunky jargon creeping in throughout.

Secondly, it's too much about the "we" and "us" of Toyota. It should be about YOU the customer. Classic mistake of being inward-focused.
