The visual identity for Glasgow City of Science has been designed by Maguires.
The Glasgow-brand building agency has developed a pastel based colour scheme of red, blue and green for the identity for the initiative which will see Government, industry and education leaders work together under the brand.
The initiative will look to encourage interest, education and investment in science, medicine, technology and engineering sectors and is being driven by Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow City Council and the City’s four Universities as well as colleges and other organisations.
Nick Maguire, managing director for Maguires, said: “It has been a privilege for us to be involved in this exciting initiative and we look forward to seeing the brand, and everything it stands for, working towards securing Glasgow’s position as a centre of excellence for the science industries.”

Poor execution I'm afraid.
Friends in high places, no other logical reason for it. Can we see the tenders under FOI please?
Innovative ? Outward Looking ? Design ? That doesn't cut it with GCMB !!
Have you nothing better to do Anon 15:49 - grow up!
Well I'll reserve judgement to see how the 'brand' is implemented but the logo doesn't appear to be a terribly good start. Too many words (why bolt on 'forward thinking' - client input methinks) and very, very dull colours.
Be careful 15.49 ! They're onto you !
Is this same 'design consortium' that coungered up the Scotland with Style logo? Honestly.

"Hello Daily Mail front desk..."
16:43 - time for your medication...
Sour grapes??
too much medication now!
that's right 16:43...contact the Government...I'm sure Mr Brown will welcome your call...just phone 10 Downing Street..that's it...go on, go on...
If your company hasn't been asked to pitch then there's a reason for that isn't there...?
Presumably the client is happy?
The End.

I kind of understand why they have done this. Glasgow: Scotland with style yada yada yada, but use a wee bit of imagination please. It also looks like a wee local architects practice who designed their own logo (nothing against architects of course - I have a friend...). Hardly exciting Im afraid. Must try harder next time.

Actually I wonder what the rejects were like if this was the one that was picked.

Hmmm... kind of wanna stick up for some designer somewhere, but finding it difficult here.
Dull colours and the 'idea' of the marque could be so so so so so much better.
At times like this, it would be very very appropriate to hear from the agency who put this into the public eye - in order for them to defend and give reason for the final approved works...? And I do say that with sincerity. I know if my agency was getting slaughtered for a piece - I'd want to justify our work?
This I feel could help help the debate with all the 'Annonymous' peeps out there.
This is beyond appalling. And to those sticking up for this, you're either responsible for it or are at a level where you think this is a good logo. In either case, your opinion counts for nothing.
Disgraceful.
Least the student in on work experience got something for their folio that made it into print...
Here's hoping.
It's surely no coincedence that you the only Maguires' work you see on here is for some Glasgow Quango (wow that's got a real ring to it) or another.
Just how "well-connected" are the Maguire "Family"?
Having just opened the page to view this masterpiece, I had immediately anticipated a huge obituary column.

I feel a call to the estate of the late Roger Hargreaves coming up, what do you think Michael?
Being a Microbiologist, I feel no affinity to this logo at all, where's the relevance?
Genius. Let's take an already questionable logo and rehash it to make an even worse one.
Does anybody have an idea how was paid for this—my guess is about £8-£10k. Anybody else fancy a guess?
correct me if I'm wrong...but do advertising agencies not employ 'designers'...
Anon 10.44 - I think you will find that the agency that has created this is infact an Advertising and 'DESIGN' consultancy...
Check your facts!
Sh1t logos aren't just designed in advertising agencies my friend. Designers knock out cr8p like this all the time, the just rationalise it better!
Dull and underwhelming. Looks more representative of an early 80's physics class than a vibrant, leading-edge science initiative.
