The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) could introduce tighter controls on promotions on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.

The body has agreed a set of proposals which will govern digital advertising to ensure that they are policed in a similar manner to traditional advertising.

All paid-for digital advertising such as website banner adverts are already covered by the ASA.

CAP is yet to agree with the proposals but will launch a consultation process on the matter.
