Andrew Grant, managing director of Glasgow-and-London based digital agency Nation1 has addressed the guerilla website created – allegedly by an ex-employee – slating his agency.
The guerilla site was launched last Thursday evening, and quickly circulated around the industry.
In his blog, Grant has not hit back at the comments placed about his agency on the copycat site, but addresses the issue of negative publicity for companies and brands online.
As to the site itself, Grant wrote that he did not plan to ‘dwell’ on it, simply stating “fact is the guy behind this is pissed off and wants revenge and the internet offers him a massive stage. We’ve all been here, it’s a fact of business life. Some of us have suffered more than others. Just think of the “We hate Arnold Clark” web campaign.”
He then turned to address online negativity; “Lets face it at some stage we are all going to piss someone off and with the rise of internet it’s only too easy for them to make a mountain out of a molehill.”
Grant advised that the best way to address online negativity is not to bury your head in the sand.
“First off don’t ignore it, it won’t go away (look at Tiger Woods). Stand up and face the music. The next thing is be aware of your legal rights – they may say they won’t turn up to court, but if they are ‘passing off’ or ‘cyber squatting’ their host is legally obliged to rip them off the web.”
At the time of writing it was understood that Grant was consulting his lawyers as to his next step in removing the offending site, but had not yet made any decisions and has also received backing from his clients.

Of course I know Andrew Grant, get on very well with him. In fact, I e-mailed him last week but this hookey site was definitely NOT created by me, I'd have done it differently and probably not as well. It's easy to find out who is behind it though, as someone's mentioned here but it's 100% NOTHING to do with me! I thought it was quite clever though and so does Andrew (if you read what he says in his blog reply). His quick-fire response was also very clever. May the cleverest man win!

Christ almighty, you don't exactly need to be Poirot to find you did this.
Doh, could be expensive. Think it would be better to declare yourself bankrupt now, cause I think Andrew will get the lot. Not that have a view on this, I'd just have done it a little more anonymously. You might have well as stuck it on a 48 sheet on Buchanan St.
Show me the money??

Andrew's response merely describes what social media. The comments he's made are roughly the equivalent of social media 101, and can be found across a thousand sites on the subject.
He didn't 'hit back' at back at the comments - clearly combative language - neither did he address them.
Of course he can *ask* for the site to be taken down, but to win any kind of lawsuit he would have to prove what was said in the site was not true.
Good luck with that one.
