The latest TV commercial for confectionary brand Tunnocks has been produced by Merle.
The campaign for Tunnock’s Teacakes begins to air this week using the message of indulgence, while revealing that each teacake contains only 106 calories, which has led to the biscuit being endorsed by Scottish Slimmers as a treat.
The ad takes place in a contemporary art gallery where a central piece of public art features a Tunnock’s teacake as the focal point, which proves too hard to resist for the browsing art lover.
Fergus Loudon, operations director for Tunnocks, commented: “This was a change from our traditional approach and message. We were taken by the work done by merle on other fmcg products and wanted to see how they would respond to this brief. We like what we got”

"We like what we got"
I'm glad someone did. Why can't I work for clients who are so easily pleased.
I love, love, love Tunnocks Tea Cakes! I don't care how many calories are in them, it won't stop me stuffing three in at once.

Fergus Loudon, When you are finished with Merle. Can we have a chat?
Would love to work on your brand.
The lady has extremely nice hair.

Jonathan Shinton, when you’re finished with Gareth Howells, send him across to Glasgow. We’d love to work on his manners.
Gareth, I'm not sure proclaiming your creative superiority will stimulate inbound new business calls.
However, Don Smith at Realise could do you a cracking new business viral.
Nice riposte John!

Now, that would be a great Drum photo feature. Maybe the start of a whole new stream of events - The Drum's Fightclub! Queensberry Rules of course, boys.

See what I mean......
It'll be a bit like Obi Wan meeting Chewbacca.
If only we could all be as good as taffy.
If only we could see what he's done in the last year.
Not impressed. So many missed opportunities about a product that seems to be quite legendary.

In spite of what the Welsh, Libyan-Dictator-lookalike says, this will work, Tunnock's tea cakes are a winning product. I had three last night, However, I don't want to know what's in them, to make them so low in calories. Probably lots of 'stuff'.
PS The girl's quite cute.
PPS Harthill square go. You're not meant to talk about Fight Club and Messrs Morgan and Howells would find that impossible.

So who won the first bout?
Obi Wan or Chewbacca?
PS. Han Solo says he's sorry he couldn't be there to back you up Chewie, but he's down here with me in a bar in Wilmslow, cutting a deal with some rather nasty bounty hunters. The house band aren't bad, they're playing quite a catchy number - strange looking bunch though.

Thought the casting of the Tunnocks Teacake was inspired. Pity about the rest of the ad.

He was a no show. Chewy won! Waaaaahhhhhhhahahahahahahahahhaahahahah!
This is very weak - are Merle supposed to be good! I'm not sure who needs to get a sense of humour more, the people at Tunnocks or the folk at Merle...is that really the best they could come up with...I despair. No wonder Gareth Howell wants to chat with Fergus Loudon, actually I think Mr Tunnock will be having a word with Fergus Loudon having wasted a fair bit of cash on this P***. A public pelting with old teacakes is in order I think.
Yeah Gavin Brian - Tilsley, that would be a real hoot and right up your street.
hmm - isn't this the style that tunnocks ads have always been done in so maybe this ad was meant to look cheap? - probably something to do with home grown, local brand you can trust type values? 106 calories each - its a decent sales pitch on account of the fact that kit kat blatently state on their packaging the calorific content using at as a USP aimed largely at females
What's the big deal? I think it's every bit as good as their previous ads. I was thinking about using Left Bank Two for something. Thanks for the warning
