Code Computerlove has been briefed to create an online networking and collaboration area for the NorthernNet project.

NorthernNet is a high-speed digital network offering 1GB transfer speeds to digital and creative companies at 17 Media Access Bureaux across the north of England.

One of its aims is to encourage collaboration between the north's digital and creative agencies and Code has been tasked with this in mind.

The Manchester agency will create Northern Knowledge, which is described as an online "knowledge bank" where creatives can share ideas.

Project director Mercedes Clark-Smith said: “Code will create a new networking and collaboration area for the site, where people can search out and share briefs with other creative industry professionals.

"NorthernNet is as relevant for independent freelancers as it is for large agencies, and by encouraging collaboration through the site, as well as events, we can enable all sectors to expand and benefit from the initiative.”

Northern Knowledge is due to be launched on the NorthernNet website in May 2010.

Code's appointment sees it join a roster of agencies that have been brought on board to raise awareness of NorthernNet. Weber Shandwick is handling PR, Origin is responsible for the creative campaign and MediaVest is in charge of media planning and buying.
