Plagiarism winner from 2009 Chip Shop Awards ripped-off

Plagiarism winner from 2009 Chip Shop Awards ripped-offPlagiarism winner from 2009 Chip Shop Awards ripped-off

An agency has taken last year's Chip Shop Award Best Use of Plagiarism winner and plagiarised it in a bid to get a nomination at the 2010 event

For their ad had been entered again by another agency, 1000heads. The category? Best Use of Plagiarism and their audacity has won them a nomination.

Based in London and New York, 1000heads claims to be the world largest word of mouth agency. Today they took part in a Twitter exchange with the person behind the original work Ali Turner who goes by the name Copy__Girl on Twitter.

She Tweeted out this morning: “I don't know whether to be outraged, impressed or flattered.”

To which 1000head replied, “Definitely flattered. Massive compliment ;)”

The response from Copy__Girl: “So will the plagiarism ad be judged on the ad itself or simply the audacity of the entry?”

She’ll have to wait for the Chip Shop Awards themselves to find out. In the meantime you can see all the nominations here.

I must admit, at first I was angry with the blatent rip-off from 1000heads, as I know how much work Ali Turner and Sarah Bentley put into this entry.

Then after sleeping on it and mulling it over, it's quite a clever idea. Yes, it doesn't have the whit that bowled Dave Trott over. But in true spirit of the Chippies, it certainly takes the piss.

So I suppose it should romp home in the Best Use Of Plagiarism category and should claim a Chip. But who'll be picking up the award on the evening?
Mmmm... interesting.

You know, that's just what I said on my blog yesterday. Maybe I should rock up on the day to claim the award ;-)

Is this proof that the Chip Shop Awards are in danger of disappearing up its metaphorical arse? Maybe. Is it becoming an outlet for parodies and joke ads the likes of which we receive everyday on email? Definitely.
I love the Chip Shop Awards as an idea but it seems to be losing it's way on selecting good creative. Yes humour and controversy is a huge part of it but if it descends into a joke fest then the whole point of it is lost.

That's exactly what it is isn't it?

I'm confused, which one is meant to be funny?

Nick, go for it ;-) Not sure how well it'll do third time round though.

I have to admit. I quite like that my ad is up for an award for the second year in a row ;-) It's got to be a first!

Not sure the headline needs "Would you like to". works just the same without it. Also, I'm assuming it's supposed to be a poster, so less is more.

That's my two-penneth for what it's worth (probably about 2p if I'm lucky, come to think of it).

Why is it that if you plagiarise a comment on here and re-post it, it is soon removed by the Drum?

Maybe so Simon, but then it wouldn't be a true rip of the Economist ad.

Wise words Mr Howells. Wish I'd thought of that. Then again, maybe I will in a few minutes.

'Art imitates art', woohoo, thankfully there are some decent entries in there also.

maybe 1000heads were taking the moniker 'copygirl' literally?

This is funnier than the "original" award.

Doesn't his just emphasise one thing - how utterly pointless and purile the Chip Shop Awards are!
An awards ceremony for ads you couldn't possibly run, for clients you couldn't possibly get!
It's like something the late great Peter Cook would have a come up with - as a pi*** take!
