Scottish radio station LI07 had its £50,000 transmitter stolen last week, while it was broadcasting live.

The Lanarkshire station, which broadcasts to a potential audience of 60,000 was reportedly broadcasting Mike Smith’s Log In to Lunch programme, according to The Daily Record and The Scottish Sun, at the time of the theft of the transmitter, located on the 17th floor of the Hamilton office. 

The incident has been reported to police, and CCTV footage has been located which apparently shows two men pushing the transmitter out on a trolley and loading into a van.

L107 was taken over earlier this year following claims that major shareholder Alan Shields failed to pay creditors and staff.

Current boss John Prendergast then bought the share holding of presenter Scotty McClue, while also offering cash guarantees to the staff and the station’s creditors.

At the time of writing, no one at the station was answering calls, while The Drum is also waiting on an update from Strathclyde Police on its hunt for the transmitter.

Updated: A spokesperson for Strathclyde Police has said that it is still treating the theft as an 'ongoing incident' and said it would contact The Drum tomorrow with an update if any arrest had been made.
