Preview: Cider brand Thatchers makes TV bow

Cider brand Thatchers will make its TV debut tonight in a campaign created by Bray Leino. Watch it here.

The 106-year-old brand will make its TV bow on ITV1 West and ITV1 Central in an advert called 'People who care about cider'.

The ad celebrates the brand's long-established heritage and family roots.

Martin Thatcher, the brand's managing director and great grandson of its first cider maker, said: "Using fine apples from our own orchards, the expertise we put into our ciders has taken over a century to acquire. So through this campaign we are looking to focus on the values that make Thatchers unique – family, heritage care and expertise."

Don't slag this ad off in any way, or the Drum will delete your comments.

All I said was, 'it was fitting that a 106 year old brand should use a 106 year old strategy' - hardly what you would describe as a lack of 'respect'. Extremely mild in comparison to some of the vitriol some of my ads have received here, without being removed. Which is fair enough - the ads are there to be commented on. So leave this one alone Drum policeman.

I didn't suggest you were anything to do with the Drum - you, like me are anonymous, so it shouldn't matter anyway. You, in a rather cryptic way, seemed to be suggesting that the way I'd voiced my opinion re this ad somehow lacked respect. And I was just putting on my deleted comment to show how ridiculous the Drum were to remove it.

The reason we delete comments every now and then is because they are posted anonymously, they are only intended to cause offence to named people/businesses and they do not make a constructive point.

Saying that a particular ad has used an extremely old strategy is making a constructive point. Shouldn't matter if this is anonymous or not. Will you concede that you got this particular deletion wrong?

Richard.
Delete nothing.
It's the only chance you've got of your rag being relevant.
Will. The irrelevant freelancer.

Will, you say the kindest things, but at least you say them under your own name and don't hide behind the anon button. Fair play to you on that.

Seem to be treading a well-ploughed furrow with that one. Liked the opening, the sound really grabs the attention and you kind of think that if we're going down the Mangiers tack, this just might deliver. Then the scene with the bee kicks in, which is really poor, and the whole ad screams out 'You know what? We're not quite Magniers, nor do we have the same budget'. It's a shame really.

I hope this has been ruined by oversensitive clients rather than under-cooked creative.

Tasted Thatchers and it's infinitely better than Magners (which is the pre-grated parmesan of the cider world).

Shame the advertising for both is the other way round
