UK's first abortion advert stirs up controversy

UK's first abortion advert stirs up controversyUK's first abortion advert stirs up controversy

A storm is brewing over the decision to allow a TV advertising campaign to highlight a woman’s choice to have an abortion.

The ‘Are You Late?’ night time, 30 second commercials are set to air on Channel 4 next week, having been funded by sexual health advice group, Marie Stopes following a relaxation of regulations for such adverts last year.

The group says that the campaign aims to provide women with information rather than promote abortion.

Anti Abortion groups have called upon The Advertising Standards Authority to ban the commercial until a proper debate is had as to whether such a campaign should be broadcast.

A spokesperson for the ASA, said: "If viewers have concerns about the content or scheduling of the ad, the ASA is able to consider complaints once the ad has aired. However, we cannot act on objections that viewers might have about the service being advertised at all.”

There's a certain degree of sensationalism going on here. The ad is about advice on pregnancy and abortions. It's not promoting abortion. But of course our blessed journalists writing for rags like the Daily Hate wouldn't want to focus on the facts. After all it beats bleating on about illegal immigrants getting Free Ferraris off the state and that wearing a Hoody can give you AIDS.
