The latest stage in Rupert Murdoch’s world domination plans come into effect today when hot on the heels of its website relaunch (which is priced separately) The Times launches its iPad edition as the omnipresent consumer products giant premieres its device in Britain.
Using Apples App store Times readers will be able to subscribe to the “electronic newspaper” for a tenner a month, a product which The Times sees as marrying the “accessibility” and “graphics” of a digital product with the “traditional feel” of the newspaper.
As a bonus the electronic edition automatically downloads to the device every morning, negating the need for a jaunt to the newsagents, storing the last six editions for perusal without the need to be online.
Using Apple’s touch screen technology users can thumb through pages and navigate through the various sections via an illustrated pop up menu. Multimedia will play a prominent role in the venture with The Times gushing that their digital edition features: “Spectacular interactive graphics, picture galleries and, of course, video.
“In other words it will be the newspaper but, we hope, even better.”
