Newcastle based agency Sumo has developed a new website for the National Glass Centre.

Based in a contemporary glass and steel building overlooking the River Wear, the National Glass Centre houses exhibition galleries, artists studios and production facilities, craft & design shop and an award winning café/restaurant.

Research had shown that people were confused about what the National Glass Centre had to offer, because of their diverse offer. Sumo restructured the site to echo the various areas of the building, with event listings, case studies, shop, image galleries and video for each.

As the user browses the site, information appears in semi-transparent 'layers' as though looking through frosted glass. The modular layout of the pages and the style of navigation was inspired by the semi-opaque glass ceiling of the NGC building.

In developing the site, Sumo took the NGC brand identity forward and were then commissioned to implement this across the Glass Centre's marketing materials.

Jim Richardson, MD of Sumo, said: "We gave ourselves quite a challenge with this site; turning the original website on its head. But we're really pleased with the result – now the National Glass Centre has a website and a brochure which properly reflect who they are and the work they are doing on all levels."
