Ofcom has received more than 750 complaints about ITV's World Cup coverage after around 1.5m viewers missed England's goal against the USA and instead saw an advert for Hyundai.

The broadcasting watchdog has logged 773 complaints after the ITV HD channel's live coverage was interrupted by the ad moments before Steven Gerrard's fourth-minute goal. Live action resumed as the England players were celebrating.

ITV, which has already received about 5,000 complaints directly, blamed the gaffe on "human error" at transmission partner Technicolour.

Ofcom will assess complaints against the Broadcasting Code.
