Horsing around on Google – an ambush marketers opportunity? Of the many weird and wonderful sights to be found whilst whiling away a spare five minutes on Google Street View one of the oddest has to be the chap in Aberdeen stood by the roadside – wearing a horse mask.
Is he on route to the panto? Off to a fancy dress party? Or just horsing around? Nobody knows.
That hasn’t of course stopped people from concocting conspiracy theories after the BBC brought the equine figure to public prominence with a range of alleged sightings in countries as far apart as Norway, Germany, Marbella and Cardiff.
In the meantime the unassuming Aberdonian street has taken centre stage in an internet phenomenon as hundreds of virtual tourists flock to its man horse populated pavement.
It raises an interesting question however; can Google’s ubiquitous service be hijacked by ambush marketers?
However, could the mysteriously masked man be Ian Anderson of Designers Republic? He was certainly already ahead of the game in a recent interview with The Drum, posing for a self portrait in a similar horses mask... Could Designers Republic Aberdeen be in the pipeline?
