A new website for British Waterways Scotland is to be developed for Scotland’s canals, with Innovation Digital appointed to handle the project.

The project will see Innovation Digital work with British Waterways Scotland, which is responsible for the 137 miles canal network, including the Caledonian, Crinan, Forth & Clyde, Union and Monkland canals, to develop a fresh online presence which will allow users to learn about the canals in an interactive manner.

The key aim of the project is to engage British Waterways Scotland’s varied audiences, through interactive and Web 2.0 technologies with information that is relevant to them.

Work has already started on defining the requirements and the first phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.

Alasdair Burns, British Waterways Scotland’s national marketing & communications manager, explained; “We need to challenge public perceptions and surprise people by presenting Scotland’s canals in an unexpected and contemporary way.  We will look to encourage users to view Scotland’s canals as somewhere to live, work, play and invest.”

Marketing manager for Innovation Digital, Graeme Fletcher explained that the agency will develop a ‘robust and scalable solution’ which would provide the client with a platform which would engage key stakeholders.
