SSL International, makers of Durex condoms, has agreed an acquisition deal with dishwasher tablet maker Finish and Cillit Bang owner Reckitt Benckiser, worth £2.54bn.

The company, which also makes Scholl footcare, Gaviscon and Nurofen, aims to boost its business in China and Japan, while also evolving its health division.

The company, which has a headquarters in London, also has manufacturing bases in Manchester, County Durham and Redruth in Cornwall.

McCann Erickson Manchester currently handles several advertising accounts for SLL International, including Durex and Scholl.

Let's hope there's no confusion of the brands and we don't hear about consumers getting lubed up with oven cleaner or giving their work surface a warm tingle with a hint of mint.
