McCann Erickson Manchester has helped launch the volunteering drive for the London 2012 Olympics online as part of its ongoing digital work to promote the games.

The wider McCann Worldgroup is the official marketing services provider to the 2012 games and this arrangement has seen its Manchester office work on media and channel planning and digital strategy.

As part of its work the Manchester team has been responsible for designing, building and delivering the interactive ‘Games Maker’, a game which tests wannabe volunteers on whether they are cut out for the work.

It has also been working on a social media integration application to allow consumers to share content from the Olympics site across their social networks.

The latest projects follow the agency's earlier involvment in creating the online home for the games' mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville.

Sue Little, CEO of McCann Manchester, said:  “Working with our colleagues across McCann Worldgroup on the brief to help recruit volunteers for the Games has been immensely satisfying for everyone involved.

"One of the great benefits of our digital responsibilities is that we’ll continue supporting the Volunteering digital process right through to Games Time.

"We firmly believe that as well as helping the organising comittee secure the volunteers it needs to deliver a successful Games, our work will help create a true legacy of volunteering and increased community involvement  across the whole of the UK and we are delighted to have played a key role in this project.”
