Bristol cabbies feeling blue

Taxi drivers are fighting demands from Bristol City Council that they repaint their black hackney cabs “Bristol Blue.”

The legislation also bans whole body advertising on cabs, restricting their coverage to the lower body only.

780 cabbies are affected by the decree which will see those who refuse have their licenses revoked.

A deadline for compliance has been set for May 2011 but at £3k a pop for the cosmetic makeover only 80 drivers have thus far resprayed, leaving city hires looking black and blue.

Hacked off cabbies angered by the un-fare legislation suffered a failed High Court appeal against the legislation but Bristol Magistrates Court will hear the case again next week.
