Real Radio merges Welsh stations for pan-Wales service

Media regulator Ofcom has approved a Format change for three Welsh radio stations operating under the Real Radio brand.

Owners GMG Radio Holdings Ltd have been granted a change to the ‘Character of Service’ from provision of “regional information” to “information about Wales”. A measure which coincides with moves to merge programming content from their South, North and Mid Wales stations into a single pan-Wales radio service.

Locally produced content includes the Jagger and Woody Real Breakfast Show, which recently saw the pair test out a ‘mankini’ on the beach at Barry Island amongst other stunts.

The adult contemporary music station will continue to target 25-54 year olds, with a commitment to speech, listener activity and 24hr news remaining unchanged.

This follows a similar Ofcom ruling in relation to Smooth North West, another GMG title.
