Old Firm stars of yesteryear had a ball in Glasgow’s George Square yesterday after staging an impromptu kick about.

The surreal sight was instigated by Tennent’s in their latest publicity stunt designed to draw attention to their sponsorship of both Rangers and Celtic.

It was a case of jumpers for goalposts as bemused tourists and locals viewed the clash from arranged park benches, although this failed to halt one old lady from mounting a pitch invasion shopping trolley in hand.

The lager firm assembled footballing veterans including Lorenzo Amoruso and Pierre van Hooijdonk for the friendly which was abandoned as a 1-1 draw after a parking attendant ruled the match offside.

George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship at Tennent's, said: "Tennent's is proud of a long association with Scottish football and we've always had a reputation for doing things a bit differently.

"So we thought there was no better way to kick off our sponsorship of Celtic and Rangers than to stage a kick-about in George Square with these Old Firm greats. This was a once in a lifetime experience for those who were lucky enough to witness it."
