Fresh from controversy over hosting ill judged “tribute” pages to killer Raoul Moat, Facebook is finding itself in the spotlight yet again.

An ex-soldier in the Israeli Defense Force has stirred international ire after posting photographs of herself posing next to handcuffed and blindfolded Palestinian prisoners to the social networking site.

The young woman, named Eden, posted the insensitive pics in an album titled ‘The Army the best years of my life’ but neglected to set her privacy settings to block access to non-friends. As a result Israeli bloggers swiftly got hold of the snaps, which soon circulated around the world.

Adding to the embarrassment for Eden one friend comments of a photograph depicting her smiling to the camera in front of grim looking prisoners: “You look sexiest here,” to which she replies: “Yeah I know… I wonder if he’s got Facebook! I have to tag him in the picture!”

An Israeli military spokesperson said it was unlikely action would be taken in this instance as Eden is no longer a serving soldier but human rights groups have seized on the bad taste album as evidence of Israeli “objectification” of Palestinians.
