Financial brand Standard Life has confirmed to The Drum that the announced redundancies will impact upon its marketing and communications teams.

The company, which today announced the second phase of its ‘organisational redesign’, is set to make up to 600 redundancies across the organisation within the next 15 months.

A spokesperson for Standard Life told The Drum that it could not legally comment due to having entered a 90-day consultation process, but confirmed that the communications and marketing teams would be included in the business areas impacted by the announcement of job losses and job creation.

Before 2012, up to 600 jobs across the business will be phased out, while 100 new jobs will be created, while 24 existing vacancies will not be filled within the UK and international business and Group Corporate Centre.

The company, which is looking to ‘actively manage’ its cost base, has said that it will do everything it can to redeploy the remaining employees back into the business and keep compulsory redundancies to a minimum.

David Nish, chief executive, of Standard Life, said: “As we transform Standard Life to deliver its growth ambitions, there is a need to both invest for future growth and actively manage our costs to be competitive.

“The decision announced today is part of the journey towards being a more adaptable and flexible organisation. Our people will be provided with the support they need while the Group goes through this necessary change.”
