Judging by Gareth's tweet last night there will be some pretty severe hangovers this morning, which give me the opportunity to be first to comment.

There was some fantastic work that won last night and it was good to see a mixture of old names and new. Just goes to prove all those anons wrong this time last year who said it's always the same old same old.

Scotland is still producing some great work and talent and I wish I could have accepted Gordon Young's invite to the night.

Well done all.

Suspect that the difference between Union and the Leith for agency of the year was as the judges said - the quality of the big ideas.

If agency of the year was about the most awards/commendations, there wouldn't be much point in having it as an award would there?

How does that work then? Are you more likely to win Agency of the Year if you pick up fewer awards and commendations? Surely then, someone like Smarts should win every year.

The amount of awards / commendations etc has only been one of the criteria for winning Agency of the Year. They also look at financial performance through Companies House and new business performance.

Also, awards aren't like for like - ask any agency if they'd rather win an award for TV or an integrated campaign or an award for one of the 'lesser' categories - I won't mention them, cos it'll look like I'm having a go when I'm not, but you get the point.

Leith didn't win one award for TV or Cinema. Union won two. Please get your facts right Anon 14:42.

According to people at The Drum financial performance is still taken into consideration anon 14.56. Hence the reference to Companies House which is one of the things I was told they look at. Plus new business wins and client retention etc.

Anyone at the Drum care to tell us what the criteria actually are?

Quite agree Pete. The sour grapes seem to be growing on the vine near The Botanics.

To extend Anon 19:17's tortuous metaphor, sour grapes can make a great wine. And it was another vintage year for those much-maligned folk at the Union. Well done guys.

Glad it wasn't a Government-fest again this year.

But what about that opening speech - I was ready to hang myself in the toilets after that.

Union win awards for TV, press and radio, commendations in posters.

Leith win awards for virals, integrated and self promotion, commendations in online.

ANYONE with any idea of what this industry is today would have given Leith that gong.

If Union had won agency of the year off the back of winning awards for that STV World Cup stuff, I'd have staged a dirty protest at Drum HQ.

Do I detect a certain bitterness from multiple anonymous Union employees who've had their nose put out of joint because they didn't win agency of the year?

All awards are subjective, so no reason why the agency of the year shouldn't be as well. Although the criteria for picking it seem to be based on more measures than people give them credit for.
