National campaign for Skoda looks at meaner side of brand

A multi-million pound marketing campaign has been developed for Skoda to promote the Fabia vRS.

The 12-week campaign, created by Fallon, centres around a 60-second TV advert, promoting the ‘meaner’ side of the Skoda brand’s Fabia vRS, and features the strapline ‘Made of Meaner Stuff’.

Beginning 1 November with two versions – a 30 second commercial will be aired between cult shows such as ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, while the full 60 second advert will go live on mainstream channels including ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and various Sky channels.

MediaCom is handling media planning and buying for the campaign which also runs across national, consumer lifestyle, sports and motoring print advertising as well as cinema advertising, online, digital and social media.

Golley Slater has also been tasked with running a PR campaign to highlight the Fabia vRS.

A dedicated campaign microsite has been developed to allow users to explore the differing sides of the Fabia range and will find everything from jelly and lollipops on the lovely side to snakes and lightning on its mean side. A purpose built YouTube channel will also host the ad as well as some behind-the-scenes footage which will be added throughout the duration of the campaign.

Fantastic advert! I really do feel German car advertising is a cut above the rest. My favourite auto industry Tv and print ads in recent years have been the fab Audi RS spider and the controversial bomb proof Polo.

I take it the wee guy at 0:27 got sacked from his supermarket job for stealing the crunchy nut cornflakes then.

So much better than that awful cake version.

Not as good as the new Euronics ad or the Bright House, but a decent enough attempt for a London agency.

I reckon it's up there with STV's Semi-Chem ad.

I seem to be missing something here. Apart from all the quite well executed effects what are we applauding. Before you come back with smart arse comments, just remember the history of Skoda cars and how far they have come..there's still a bit of
a stigma about the brand.

We're applauding a TV ad that's actually pretty good. Ever tried to work on things like cars, bread, soft drinks, beer etc? I reckon from your comment you haven't. How many decent car ads you seen recently? Not many I reckon, and this one stands out.

To be fair it's not the best car ad I've ever seen, whereas Cake was pretty damn close to it.

Just seems a bit obvious. Whereas Cake came from a universe guarded by magical pixies and talking puppies and everyone who lives there only uses one leaf of toilet roll when they wipe their bum-bum 'cos they're so damn pristinely awesome.

@Anonymous 16.01 - That totally is the guy from the crunchy nut advert! Good spot!
