A source for The Scottish Government has said that the competition is still to be devised.

The developer is required to possess the experience and knowledge of the necessary technology to create a web based digital game, working alongside the student designer to develop the winning concept and product a game that meets the appropriate ideals of the Commonwealth Games Federation and the Glasgow 2014 brand.

The free to play game will be housed on the Glasgow 2014 website and should be designed to be played in 2D, with vector based scalable graphics and simple music and sound effects, as well as be playable through either a keyboard or a single-button mouse.

Between £20,000 - £40,000 has been set aside to pay for the project, a single-stage tender for games agencies to apply though is being advertised on e-tendering website Public Contracts Scotland.

Deadline for entries is 16 December, with the contract estimated to be awarded on 12 January 2011.
