Welsh cider brand aims to displace wine

Hallets, a Welsh brand of homemade ciders, has been launched today positioned as “a real alternative to wine.”

Hallets Real and Hallets Vintage have been developed by husband and wife team Andy and Annie Hallet, after they won a £12k grant from the Caerphilly Rural Development Team.

This enabled Cardiff based Celf Creative to create the “beautifully simple” branding for the drink, which will be targeted at high end restaurants and gastropubs.

Andy Hallett said: “Although cider has come some way in shedding its reputation as a drink for farmers or teenagers, many people still don’t recognise its potential as a real accompaniment to food, particularly artisan cheese.

“Through Hallets we hope to prove that, far from being wine’s cheap cousin, cider really can compete for a place on the table of even the most discerning of foodies.”

I take it by wine they mean Buckfast? If not I reckon they'll need a better looking bottle.
