LBi and bigmouthmedia have predicted that 2011 will be ‘a landmark year’ for digital marketing with a raft of legislation changes as well as technical and economic changes taking place that will impact upon the sector.

In its annual predictions, the digital marketing company has said that it expects legislative changes being made in March with the Advertising Standards Authority planning to expand to oversee the digital sector to include ‘tougher’ approval processes for PPC and display.

Developments in technology such as the expanding apps market and the growing demand for iPad and other tablets facing retailers is also touched upon.

Andrew Girdwood, media innovations director for Bigmouthmedia, commented: "2011 will also be the year that many businesses become publishers, with companies around the world placing increased emphasis on creating original quality content at the core of their marketing strategies. Content is king once more, and we expect to see an explosion of activity as brands put greater focus on creating a compelling user experience."
