In contrast to the reaction of ITV to Ofcom’s review of the Channel 3 network arrangements, STV has welcomed the findings of the media watchdog.

Yesterday, following a six month consultation period of the ITV network including ITV plc and its network of regional Channel 3 licensee holders, Ofcom ruled that no change was necessary to the arrangement, despite ITV requesting otherwise.

Bobby Hain, director of STV Channels and Regulatory Affairs, commented: "We welcome Ofcom's conclusion that the existing arrangements be retained.  This is in accordance with the recommendations made by STV and the other non-consolidated licensees and provides certainty for all."

Following the announcement of Ofcom's review being released, ITV stated that it still believed that a change to the Channel 3 network arrangements were needed without ITV subsidising 'non-consolidated licensees' on an annual basis. It said that this was 'not sustainable' and called for an overhaul to be undertaken to reflect market driven agreement that did not include subsidies.
