A round-up of some of things that Miller is keen to see next year.
OUR RESTRUCTURE
We’ve just restructured our business to enable us to provide some senior staff with new development opportunities and both recognise and reward our management team by promoting them to MD’s. This is not only deserved by all the individuals involved but also puts us in best place to deliver excellence for our clients and expand our business in both current and emerging markets.
MY NEW JOB
Following the above, I’m now taking more of a CEO role across the Material Group, and I’m really excited about working with our newly shaped team to take Material to new places. Without wanting to sound like some pseudo Captain Kirk figure boldly going and all that, I am really up for a new challenge and can’t wait to take Material, our amazing team and clients both current and future on the journey with us. As my primary school teacher told me the day I left: “May you Conquer the World Sera”. Other than being infinitely cool because her name was Pixie Sutcliffe, and maybe it’s the Manc in me talking, but why not?
CRAZY FUNDRAISING CHALLENGES
For some unknown reason I am entertaining the prospect of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with a team of people from work to raise money for our newly formed Material Foundation, the beneficiaries of which for 2011 are to be decided at our next all agency meeting in January. I fully expect to lose my mind to the extent that this sure-fire physical impossibility attempts to become a reality. Hopefully theoretical common sense will prevail and what goes up will come down.
TRUE END TO THE RECESSION
Whilst technically the recession is over given the last 2 quarters of NET growth in the UK, I’m looking forward to a hopeful return of a more stable global equilibrium over the next 12 months. With one eye naturally on our Dublin office and the other on our global ambition, the world’s economic position is as crucial for us individually as well as collectively. I also remain optimistic for a return to confidence, both for brands and consumers, be it through a renewed fervour for innovation or a more relaxed mood for dialogue and trying something new.
THE ELECTION
Not only are we definitely getting one in Scotland in May, but Will Hill’s have just slashed the odds of a General Election next year from 20/1 to 4/1. Not only might this bring about some positive political change but it will also potentially see the return of such viral delights as the Clegg Headline Generator, Downing Street Fighter and Slap A Politician. Malcolm Tucker would be proud.
