Virtual animation preview of Salford University MediaCityUK

A virtual reality animation has been developed to provide a first look at the digital learning, teaching and research space for the University of Salford, set to be located at MediaCityUK.

The virtual animation takes a bird-eye tour of the new building, which is set to be shared with ITV, and be home to more than 1,500 staff and students from Autumn 2011.

Jon Corner, director of MediaCityUK , University of Salford, said: “This is a really exciting time for us.  Work is well underway on the internal layout and we are looking forward to welcoming staff and students to the new building later this year. When it’s complete the new facility will offer a fantastic, flexible learning space which we believe will enhance creativity and interaction and lead to some really interesting collaborative ideas emerging.

“Added to that we are neighbours with both the BBC and ITV, along with a host of superb creative and digital businesses based at MediaCityUK. The potential for collaborative working and learning is huge and mutually beneficial, and both our students, staff and neighbours can look forward to a rich and rewarding experience.”

The 103,000 square foot facility will overlook MediaCityUK’s main piazza, and sit next to the BBC building, initially offering a range of 39 undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Audio Technology, Journalism, Animation, Computer and Video Games, Digital Broadcast Technology, and Creative Technology.

All that shows me is an empty building with a few tables and chairs. Hopefully it's better than that. Otherwise even with it's links and location it's nowhere near as good as its rival north-west Universities.

I'm sure everybody is really excited about this new facility and couldn't wait to showcase it but this does nothing for it at all. It looks more like a student project. Don't know what it cost but in these very uncertain days I'm sure the money could've been better spent.

think the 3d is sound, but they could have spent more work on the typography, really flat and clumsy! Think with some nice styling and transitions could have helped to elevate project

This is not good at all. It looks like it was made in the early nineties..

I disagree with you 09:24 - the 3D is very very poor. The camera paths and movement are unnatural, and it hasn't been rendered. Probably done by a student.

how can this be "leading virtual animation"?? I love seeing great work to inspire , but unfortunately this really looks dated - sloppy 3D, poor typography transitions! I hate having to criticise , but quite frankly this needs to step up a few levels

Wow! Retro-styled game play. Scott Pilgrim-tastic. But wait! No choice of weapons, no multi-player function and no zombies! WTF! *tears fuse Pac-man on spectrum*

In what way is this a "birds-eye" tour? Seriously.
