The press coverage and follow-up media relations of the recent announcement of two giant pandas being gifted to Edinburgh Zoo by China, is being overseen by CM Porter Novelli.

The Edinburgh PR consultancy was appointed by the zoo’s owners, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) over the Christmas break to stage manage simultaneous media calls in Edinburgh and London for the signing of the agreement between RZSS and the Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association, witnessed by deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg and Chinese vice premier, Li Keqiang.

This resulted in coverage across differing media all around the world.

Angela Casey, managing director of CM Porter Novelli, commented: “What a way to start the year!  The team was ‘all hands on deck’ from before New Year and through the very high profile announcement last week.  Now on board until the giant pandas arrive, we are really looking forward to a busy 2011.”

The agency is now handling follow up media relations based around the Pandas within Edinburgh Zoo.
