BBC downplays rumours that entire channel may move to MediaCity

The BBC has moved to downplay speculation that it is considering moving an entire channel to Salford Quays.

The rumours took root after Director General Mark Thompson told a meeting of the Royal Institute of British Architects that he was was 'personally' keen that one of the BBC's channels should be located in the new Media City complex.
Industry sources has indicated that BBC 3 would be a prime candidate for the move which was seen as a 'legacy' issue by Thompson.

However, following reports yesterday the BBC issued a statement which said: “There are no immediate plans to move other networks to MediaCityUK, but of course decisions like this cannot be ruled out forever.”
