There have been rumours that an entire channel, perhaps BBC3 could be Salford bound, and when asked about this directly Thomson did not deny it.
Meanwhile, she admitted that moving Question Time to Glasgow would result in additional cost.
The move has sparked criticism after it became parent that presenter David Dimbleby opposed the move that recently led to his editor quitting.
But Thomson said: “We believe firmly it is worth the money because the BBC has an obligation to reflect the whole country.”
London-based newspapers such as The Daily Mail have been increasingly critical of BBC plans to moves departments outside of London. Thomson’s commitment to the process will be no doubt viewed with relief to amongst Northern media operators.
