Painter Jack Vettriano has expressed his approval of a promotional campaign created by The Old Course Hotel, which recreated one of his paintings.

Promoting its valentine’s hotel breaks, the hotel, golf resort and spa, recreated Vattriano’s painting ‘Elegy for a Dead Admiral’, working alongside photographer Hamish Campbell.

The hotel’s PR firm, Bray Leino Edinburgh then sent a copy of the photography to the artist’s agency, which led to Vettriano issuing a positive response.

Writing to Bray Leino, Vettriano, said: "To me, the game of life and love is played out on the beaches because that's where some go to fall in love. The beaches of Fife have been a constant inspiration to me and I’m delighted that my work has become an inspiration to others." He added: "I am very flattered that the Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews chose to recreate my painting, Elegy for a Dead Admiral.”

Following a series of communications, Vettriano chose to feature the work in an exhibition of romantically themed prints, which are now on display in the hotel through out February, with a charity dinner, set to be attended by the artist, also having been arranged.

The dinner will also see his painting ‘Let’s Twist Again’, chosen by First Minister Alex Salmond for his Christmas card last year, put up for auction.
