Who is moving where? Bannana Kick, Fifth Ring, theEword, Cognition

Here is the People on the Move column which was published in last week's edition of The Drum.

LYNNE MCILROY, PR ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, FIFTH RING
1. I was doing admin for a furniture company after relocating to Aberdeen and saw this role as an opportunity to use my degree and training from my previous job as a journalist. 2. Archibalds, a furniture shop in Aberdeen. 3. I did some voluntary freelance design and copywriting for Central Scotland Police. 5. Bartok from the animated film Anastacia cracks me up! I also had a disturbing crush on Superted as a kid. 6. Cleaner at a gymnasium. I lasted a day (cleaning body hair out the shower drainage system). 7. The first singles were three bought at the same time (with my cohort twin sister) - Gala’s ‘Freed from Desire’, ‘You Were Meant For Me’ by Jewel and the theme tune to the TV show ‘Friends’ by The Rembrandts. My tastes have definitely improved with age!

KLEON WEST, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, THEEWORD
1. Initially, what attracted me was the variety of the role. No two days are the same here – theEword is an exciting and forward thinking company, which was exactly what I was looking for. 2. Apple. 3. My first industry job was as a Marketing Intern at Contact Theatre. 4. When I saw an advert for the job, I was already aware of theEword so decided to apply. 5. Sherlock Holmes. He is a deductive genius, using his analytical mind to solve compelling mysteries. 6. I’ve not really had any terrible jobs, but I would probably have to say working as a door-to-door salesman. 7. Will Smith – Rock the House.

MATTHEW PETTITT, DEVELOPER, THEEWORD
1. I decided to apply for theEword after hearing some good recommendations from my contacts around Manchester. 2. Excel Publishing. 3. I was self-employed as a freelance web developer in the Scottish Borders region. 4. I saw a retweeted call for CVs, did some research on the company and decided to apply. 5. The Librarian from the Discworld series. 6. I was once a children’s shoe fitter. 7. I think it was something by Texas.

JO DAIN, STRATEGIC PR MANAGER, COGNITION AGENCY
1. Cognition has what I believe to be a unique approach in the industry – evidence-based communications that is boosted by cognitive psychology and a test/refine/review approach to tactical activity. What’s more it’s applied across the agency’s four integrated departments, PR, marketing, digital and creative. 2. Watermark PR in Birmingham. 3. Weber Shandwick in Edinburgh. 4. Pitch Consultants. 5. Alice in Wonderland – I always love a mini adventure… plus, life is often a dream! 6. Ironically, as I enjoy spending time in pubs, my worst job was working behind a bar. I was utterly rubbish! It’s harder than it looks. 7. New Kids on the Block – Hangin’ Tough. I shamefully even saw them in concert… twice!

BEN HOOPER, ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, BANANA KICK
1. I’ve always been a big sports fan and did a sports marketing & PR degree so when the opportunity came up to work in a sports and leisure marketing agency I jumped at the chance. 2. Leeds Metropolitan University. 3. This is my first specific marketing role although I’d done work experience with ‘an agency called england’ and the marketing department of Leeds Rugby. 4. I got a call from a colleague who I’d done some work experience with while he was at another company saying that there might be a position at Banana Kick so I sent in my CV. 5. Dennis the Menace. You can’t beat the Beano! 6. I used to work on a farm so there were some pretty bad jobs there! However being a security guard at the Ashes cricket at Headingley stadium was horrible. All I wanted to do was join in the fun! 7. Now 38. The first song is Tubthumping by Chumbawumba. A classic one hit wonder.

LOUISE LEE, CREATIVE SERVICES MANAGER, BANANA KICK
1. The variety of clients and projects. 2. This is Chemistry, full service agency in Little Germany, Bradford. 3. I began working in the industry in 2001 as a Production Assistant for NXDimension (based in Cleckheaton, now called PureBrand Creative). 4. I was introduced to the company/Gary (Director) by a freelance designer/artworker who has been working for Banana Kick and who I’d previously worked with at Real Affinity. 5. Stewie from Family Guy – very funny. 6. When I was 14 I had a Saturday job at Barratts shoes, I hated it and only got paid £1.70 an hour! 7. I can’t remember the first album that I bought but the first album that I ‘borrowed’ from my sister and loved was Guns n Roses – Appetite for Destruction.

RACHEL MUNSON, CLIENT EXECUTIVE, COGNITION AGENCY
1. Coming straight out of uni I knew that I needed a very rounded marketing job in order to get a full, working grasp of what goes on in the marketing and advertising world. 2. Electric Beach Tanning Salon 3. This is it. 4. I researched marketing agencies in Warwickshire and walked door to door asking for jobs at my favourite ones. When I walked into Cognition I had a sort of pre-interview right there and then. 5. I’ve always admired Winnie-the-Pooh... 6. When I was 15 I worked at Chuck-E-Cheese back home in the USA. Besides cleaning children’s vomit out of the giant hamster tubes, the worst part of that job was wearing the rat suit. 7. The first ever album that I bought has to be Backstreet Boys – Backstreet’s Back.

JACQUES WARD, DEVELOPER, COGNITION AGENCY
1. Cognition already had an established digital department so I knew there was the prospect of being able to move up the ladder, gain new experiences and knowledge and further myself in my specific field. 2. Cariad Marketing – a small digital marketing company based in Hertfordshire. 3. A/V Technician at Video Inn Production. 4. Online based job search websites. 5. Samurai Jack. 6. Bar attendant at a nightclub that shall remain nameless! 7. Oasis – Be Here Now.
