A new, hard-hitting TV campaign has launched, offering hope to the thousands of Scottish adults who suffer verbal, physical, sexual and financial abuse, often at the hands of their own families.
Created by STV Creative, produced by Lisa Baruffati and Aileen Rushton and directed by Adrian McDowall, the three week campaign is a partnership between 14 Scottish councils who have pooled resources to reach 2.3million adults living in the STV Glasgow transmission area, focusing on the issues of the financial abuse of the elderly, the day to day abuse suffered by adults with learning disabilities and how long term alcohol abuse can affect a person’s ability to look after themselves.
Renfrewshire Adult Protection Committee’s independent chair Tim Huntingford commented: “This campaign is about raising awareness about the issues some adults face from physical injury to insidious exploitation. It is about urging people to take action and change a life, possibly even their own.”
Eileen McCartin of Renfrewshire Council added: “There are many adults who are just as vulnerable as children. The abuse that often goes quietly unremarked against adults would cause an outcry if it were done to children. It is an issue that we must make people aware of and we must encourage them to report.”
The advert promotes a free hotline number (0300 777 6520) and website (www.adultprotection.tv) which people can use to get help or to report concerns about friends, relatives or neighbours.

I do love how the inclusion of a squinty picture is used to highlight the decline of someone into the abyss of either drink or drugs. When Phil Mitchell goes on his drink/coke/heroin benders every picture in his house adopts a rakish angle. Strange really, I regularly get well pissed and never go near the pictures in my house.
Pretty workman-like production with a soft cheesy ending.
Speaking of cheese: please fire the copywriter and while you'd at it get rid of the voice-over artist.
Piano music is OTT, as is the rather syrupy VO. This is in the tried and tested area of show problem, give solution. And there's lots of interesting ways to do this. This, unfortunately isn't one of them. As anon 13.40 says 'pretty workman-like'.
Being full of wallet dipping, mentally challenged booze bags!! I thought this was part someone's Agency creds!!
Another classic from the oxymoron that is STV Creative. Thanks to The Drum for reminding me how talented I am. And thanks to STV Creative not only for making it, but for actually owning up to it.
That bloke tucking in to the bottle of whisky...he's probably a graphic designer.
Shouldn't this go the the Gov roster agency? what a waste of money.
Anon 14.10. Naw, he's the production manager, you can tell by the slitters!
I've seen some of Adrian McDowells previous work - and this falls well short of his usual standrds.
The script has all the hallmarks of the dreaded committeeeee - and with several council bodies invoolved they probably contributed a line each for review and discussion.
Old hat, poorly done - anon at 13;40 is being too kind.
Also what's wrong with having a wee drink or 2 at home?
And; why is the carer wifie at the end squeezed in beside the bevvy boy on a single armchair? She gently touches his arm, he looks down at his willie, fade to crashing waves....
So then,...STV 'Creative' is an agency now then!
What the Hell is going on.
We go through all the 'due process' which is a public sector tender and this crap gets railroaded through.
There is NO hope!
