In a bid to usurp Asda’s price guarantee scheme, rival supermarket chain Tesco is to launch a customer offer itself.
Tesco has announced to customers that if they find they their shopping is cheaper at Asda, they will receive a voucher worth double the difference to lure back those lured away.
This offer will see the supermarket make around £200 million worth of price cuts across over 1,000 products.
Incoming UK CEO of Tesco, Richard Brasher, explained: “Customers are telling us that they are putting a lot of thought into how to manage their household budgets.
“Tesco cannot influence the cost of heating your home, or the price of your train ticket, or what tax you pay: this is our way of doing what we can to keep household spending manageable. Tesco will lower prices on more than 1,000 everyday products across our stores – from rice and tea to bleach and washing powder. These will benefit every one of our customers," continued Brasher.
It is not thought that the offer will be expanded to include other rival supermarket chains.

I see all the TV ads and the general impression I get is that all the supermarkets are claiming to be cheaper than the others, but this would be contradictory because they can't all be true. When they do a price comparison on the basket it's interesting how they selectively hand pick certain products which puts their basket the cheapest - that's a bias and makes the whole thing a bit of a marketing gimmick that doesn't really serve anybody. When I want to buy something, I use this site to do a Tesco price check ( http://www.superstoresearch.com/~Tesco ) and find out the real price - sometimes Tesco is cheaper, sometimes not, but either way it's helpful to know especially if you're a making a large ticket purchase.
