News roundup

Five pages of news, creative work and commentary from the UK marketing industry over the last fortnight, all pulled together for you to digest in a new look.

The Top Table - Special Report
Welcome to The Drum's Power 100, the list of the most influential people in the marketing services world outside the M25. The list is based on an online poll that attracted around 8,000 votes and was used to decide the final rankings. The criteria was to determine those with the most influence, profile, responsibility, experience and knowledge. And those who control the future of the industry, those that hire and fire, wine and dine and those that are instrumental in attracting client investment to their agency and, more importantly, their region. Here we look at the top 20. But to see the profiles of the full list visit www.thedrum.co.uk/power100/2011.

Creative culture
The Works aims to give you it all - big thinking, great creative and subtle execution. Each issue of The Drum we dedicate this ample section of the magazine to showcase some of the best new creative work and thinking from the regions... In all its glory. To submit work for this section, contact gordon.laing@carnyx.com.

Creatives Unite
Resign London was launched last week by NW Vision + Media to address the shortage of skills in the region. Created as a uniting cry for the north west creative scene, little did they know that it would only unite the industry against the creative work.

When push comes to Nudge
Whether you realise it or not the chances are that over the past year you'll have been nudged, either by marketers or the government. But is there any such thing as a gentle nudge? With the topic becoming highly politicised in the UK The Drum decided to have a read of this infectious ideology to find out.

Man versus The Machine
It is a nightmarish vision - man is replaced by machines. But this is the vision that Stéphane Xiberras the exec creative director at BETC EURO RSCG Paris created with CAI. The point of CAI - a machine that creates adverts - was to prove the worth of creative human thought, yet its results very often remind us of ads we have already seen. We invited Xiberras to write about his creation and his fears of creative homogeneity... and then we invited real UK creatives to test their skills against the power of Xiberras' machine.

Knowledge Bank
Knowledge is a powerful thing. So, each issue of The Drum we dedicate an area to help share the knowledge garnered by the industry - learning's that could help your business, your clients or even you.
