"I didn't want to miss this," said the Apple CEO but he didn't reveal what 'this' was right then!

Looking thin, but very much on top of his game, microphone in hand, he said "We've been working on a few things. I didn't want to miss today".

He started with some amazing figures : 65,000 apps for the iPad; 100 million e-books downloaded; $2 billion paid to app developers.

"2010 turned out to be the year of the iPad," said Mr Jobs. "We sold almost 15 million iPads in 2010 from April to December. It generated a little shy of $10 billion in revenue for Apple.

"We've never had a product that got off to that fast a start. We have 90 percent of the market. Our competitors were just flummoxed. They went back to their drawing boards, tore up their designs."

The new iPad represents evolution as opposed to revolution. It will have a faster processor than the original iPad’s and comes with two cameras for taking photos and video chatting.  It will also be thinner - 8.8 millimeters instead of the current 13.4.

Jobs pointed out; "The new iPad 2 is actually thinner than your iPhone 4.”

The new iPads will cost the same as the originals.
