Something for the weekend: 10 O'Clock Live vs PR agencies

Here's something for you to add to your viewing list: Channel 4's 10 O'Clock Live calling out PR agencies for their accounts with Middle East dictators.

On last night's show presenter Lauren Laverne launched into a scathing monologue about "our boys in PR... they've been doing sterling work for dictators all over the Middle East".

Laverne specifically named Brown Lloyd James for associations with Colonel Gadaffi and Bell Pottinger for its work with the Kingdom of Bahrain. She also pulled up Burson-Marsteller for its past work with the Nigerian government, the Argentinean Junta and the Indonesian government.

"So if you've got a bad rep and a bit of history that needs rewriting you need a bit of British PR... we really are the very best for the very worst," Laverne said.

You can watch the clip for yourself here at around 20 minutes in.

good on the 10 O'Clock show for highlighting this unethical and wholly unpleasant practice. If PR was ever to improve its reputation as an industry it would have to stop doing work like this.
