Apple is to sue online retailer Amazon for trademark infringement after Amazon opened its own app store with a similar title.

The law suit was filed by Apple, which is very protective of its trademark, to seek an injunction against Amazon using the app store name for its own service, as well as to receive damages.

The Amazon App Store Development Portal will initially sell apps developed for Google Android.

Last week it was revealed that Apple was attempting to gain ownership of the Granny Smith apple logo which it won from The Beatle’s record label Apple Corps in a legal settlement four years ago.
