Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News International has been asked by the parliamentary inquiry into phone hacking practices at its newspapers, to hand over details of alleged payments made by The Sun to police officers.

The Guardian reports that the chairman on the Commons Home Affairs Committee, Keith Vaz, has written to Brooks to gain more information on how many officers were paid by the newspaper, as well as how much they were paid and when.

Brooks, who was previously editor of The Sun before taking on her current position, made the claims to the Culture, Media and Sport Committee in 2003 that reporters had paid officers for information.

At the time of writing News International had not commented.
