An official royal app was announced today, fittingly themed around weddings and telling the story of seven royal nuptials from Victoria and Albert in 1840 to Charles and Camilla in 2005.
To be launched by the Royal Collection on 18 April, the app reaffirms the royal family’s enthusiasm to embrace new developments online, having last year established a presence on Flickr and Facebook, joined Twitter in 2009 and registered a royal channel on YouTube in 2007.
The Royal Collection's director of publishing and new media Jemima Rellie commented: "Apps enable us to place works from the Royal Collection in the hands of a worldwide audience. It is fitting and exciting that the first Royal Collection App will share the stories of past royal weddings and offer a wealth of historical context for the ceremony on 29 April."
The app, which is to be priced at £1.79 for Apple and Android phones, will be available in eight languages.
