QD Events scraps The Main EventQD Events scraps The Main Event

Annual conference to promote the Scottish events industry, The Main Event, has been canceled by organising company QD Events.

The event, which began in 2008 at the SECC in Glasgow, will no longer take place.

This year the event began to charge for entry having previously been free-to-enter, which is thought to have deterred people from attending.

A letter from Susan Johnstone, group show manager for QD Events announcing the decision said that the show would no longer take place, and highlight the events win as Best B2B Exhibition at the Scottish Event Awards in 2009.

“The impacts of the recession have struck the events industry particularly hard, making it increasingly difficult to attract sufficient support and commitment from exhibitors to ensure a commercially viable show for QD Events,” she continued.
